For Celia Dunn, the phrase, “never take a shortcut” has been a theme throughout her career and life. As founder and president of Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty, she has worked to create a unique model with good people at its heart. Dunn has proven that good business and integrity go hand in hand. With her company’s genuine 'clients first' approach and warmth, reminiscent of a dose of good old-fashioned Savannah hospitality, clients return time after time.
Known for business and community leadership, her achievements are many. She was born and reared in Savannah, Georgia. Celia was graduated from St. Mary's School in Peekskill, New York and Sweet Briar College in Virginia where she served on the Friends of Art Board for many years. Work ethic and giving back have always been very important to Celia. During her high school and college years, she worked in both retail and insurance. Surprising to some, she also taught in public schools in Savannah, focusing on troubled youth.
In 1974 she founded Celia Dunn Realty Company, and her husband Larry, joined in the venture in 1982. While running her company, Celia made it a priority to devote time to service and volunteerism. She is a lifelong member of Christ Church and has enjoyed being on the vestry. Many prominent organizations have noticed her leadership and service to her community throughout the years. Her awards and accolades include being named Outstanding Citizen by the American Red Cross. She was the first and only female realtor to be honored by Junior Achievement Savannah Business Hall of Fame. She was Outstanding Alumna from Savannah Country Day School in 2013.
She has also served as President of the Junior League of Savannah, and as Chairman of Georgia Week. Celia has also been appointed to the board of the Historic Savannah Foundation, which has become one of the most “respected local preservation organizations in the country, emphasizing not only the protection of individual historic buildings but also the revitalization of blighted neighborhoods”.
She has also served on the boards of the Savannah Music Festival, Savannah Technical College, and Savannah Children’s Community Choir. She was a Director for Savannah Multi-List and earned the Distinguished Sales and Service Award for the past thirty-nine consecutive years. Celia represented Savannah on the Community Advisory Board for Southern Bell Telephone beginning in 1978.
In her spare time, Celia enjoys her weekly tennis sessions, yoga practice and spending time in her garden. She and Larry are proud parents of two adult children and three grandchildren. Visits to Jacksonville to enjoy time with family are many, and when travel takes the Dunn’s a bit further from home, they enjoy the captivating sights of Paris, France, New York City, and Highlands, North Carolina.
